We Are
wisdom's edge foundation, Inc.
An outreach organization that brings philosophy to the edges of society.
Based on the claim that Socrates makes in the Apology written by Plato, "the unexamined life is not worth living," Wisdom's Edge Foundation, Inc. seeks to give meaning and value to every life through deep exploration of philosophical texts by means of democratic discussion and dialogue, coupled with personal introspection. Because we are an outreach organization, we go to communities and bring philosophy-based classes to groups that otherwise would not have access to traditional university philosophy classes. We are funded through grants and generous donations. We do not charge any fees for our services. What we provide is a gift to communities.

"Philosophy is spiritual thinking at its finest". - 12 years old participant.
"Thanks so much for offering the p4c class to the kids. I don't now what magic you did, but I never have to remind my son to go to your class and he comes back happy. He usually is quite picky at his extracurricular activities. I want to thank you for your generosity and dedication! We appreciate you very much!" - Mother of p4c neighbor participant, 2022.

"I gained some new insights into a deeper way of thinking."
"I learned how to deal with and learn new things." "I learned some thinking tools." "I learned personal awareness." |
inter-generational groups
"We talked about how when someone gets proven wrong on something they get mad instead of acknowledging they were wrong. I thought that was interesting because I haven't thought about that before."
"My late husband had dementia at the end of his life, so I value the brain stimulation required to read the assignments and pull out pieces of the readings and apply it to the questions in class. As an older person living alone, the class was a great social outlet!" |
families with broken relationships
"I learned that despite coming from starkly different backgrounds, there are way too many commonalities between the West and the East. I was shocked to find that certain cultural norms, which I find to be extremely suffocating as an Indian, are imposed on and expected from those in the West too. Media often exaggerates cultural differences and highlights only the privileges of the West. I think I have a lot to work on decolonising my mind."
